Gyeongju hotels South Korea
Gyeongju is a major tourist destination for South Koreans, and also for visitors from abroad. A great deal of this is due to the city's status as a center of Silla heritage. (Gyeongju was the capital of the Shilla Kingdom for over 1,000 years) Thousands of historic buildings and objects have been maintained well throughout the city, truly making it the "museum without walls." Many sites are within easy walking distance from each other, making visiting the city very convenient. Some of the most famous sites here include: Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram Grotto, The National Gyeongju Museum, Deareungwon and Bomun Lake Resort. And the World Heritage Committee gathering, Gyeongju's relics were recognized among the worlds most treasured. Every year since 1962, The Silla cultural festival has been held in October to celebrate and honor the dynasty's history and culture. It features athletic events, folk games, music, dance, literary contests and Buddhist religious ceremonies. |
